Where Do We Go From Here?

Artist Statement

My work emerges from experiences in natural spaces, where walking becomes a quiet act of connection. Moving through the landscape, the body follows paths that often lead towards the unknown.

In these moments, we begin to heal with the land and alongside it. Hands clutch the earth as the earth, in turn, holds us.

Each painting carries me back to a place - a memory, a fleeting moment where time feels suspended. These moments live within the paths, the stones, and the pigments of the soil beneath our feet.

Through walking, we embody both memory and place.

I think of my paintings as vessels for memory - spaces that can be entered and inhabited.

A conversation about the land and the sea.

‘Finding A Path’

The composition of ‘Finding a Path’ was originally taken on black and white film during my time spent in Australia.

I spent time wondering the plains of this distant land, foraging, walking and discovering; collecting ideas amongst those present surroundings.

My senses were stimulated with new sounds and scents.

‘Moon Islands’

These paintings were created during my travels in Australia. I became fascinated with the ‘Moon Place’ (Giidany Miirlarl) and the surrounding islands, near Coffs Harbour.

I was interested in portraying how they appear under the light of the moon.

‘When the Moon Man is sick he is small, but he always recovers to become the full moon. He walked on the beach and took control of the tides.’

‘Something Once Called This Place Home’

The echo of an insect’s nest resting upon a wall, outside of a rental office; something once called this place home.

Using clay from a local quarry, I sculpted the nest, as the insects themselves would have once sourced their materials from the surrounding land.
